“The weight off my shoulders”- Alexander Volkanovski highlights a change in mentality and the effect of social media

Alexander Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski has always been a chilled-out dude outside the octagon and a beast inside. Especially since he became the champ after beating Max Holloway in a really close battle, all the Holloway fans and haters combined together have been giving the champ a hard time.

Whenever Alex’s name would pop up or he’d say anything, everyone would just hit him with a ‘Robbed’ comment as if he was the Robin Hood of MMA who had captured the gold for himself by taking it from the poor [Max]. He then continued to fight Max for the second time which was yet again a really close fight and he received a similar response all over again.

Alexander Volkanovski adds that he’s a small-town guy who has a very ‘Down to the Earth’ personality and accepted his flaw of caring too much about what people think which didn’t quite let him be himself. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, he said, “It’s pretty confusing [With his ego and also caring about opinions] but I did something about it, and the weight off my shoulders is just Incredible…”

Alexander Volkanovski said that he finally dismissed all the negativity and started to care less about what people think, says that he would wear the belt with pride henceforth just as he deserves to. Mental health can be difficult and could sap all your achievements away, hope the king enjoys his time as the champ.

Alexander Volkanovski had previously claimed that Max Holloway was just faking an injury to get out of the fight, especially after the Korean Zombie accepted his fight [Which is when Max agreed to be a backup.] Alex was pretty frustrated about Max’s decision to pull out especially at the crucial moment where Alex was preparing for Holloway.

Alex deleted the tweet which said that Max was probably ‘Never injured’ and added to say that he was ‘Cheating’ [In a sarcastic way] as he was trying to beat him[Alex] when he was preparing for someone else or not prepared at all. He then told Submission Radio that he was frustrated and wasn’t too proud on the sarcastic taunt he made and admits that it was ‘silly’.

“It was frustrating because at the time I really wanted that fight, you know what I mean and once you heard he got injured, especially when they announced it earlier, it was all a bit confusing and frustrating. So you see my frustration obviously, I wanted to tweet and have a little shot at Max and that was the only reason, which was pretty silly on my behalf, to be honest. That just shows you where sort of my head was at back then, you know what I mean? That’s something that I’ve really been working on lately.”
