The fighter fought for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 262 after only one fight in the UFC.

“The fans want it,” says Michael Chandler on why his chances for the rematch are high
“Do I think I automatically make myself the number one contender by beating Tony Ferguson or winning my next fight? I don’t think so, under normal circumstances,” said Michael Chandler on the DC&RC show. “But these are not normal circumstances. I think everybody wants to see a rematch of myself and Charles Oliveira. They definitely want to see a rematch of the fight of the year between me and Justin Gaethje.”
“I’ve kind of put myself in a unique position where I could be one win away and I get the nod to win the title before the end of 2022. If I got to fight two more three more fights to get back to the title, that’s what I’m gonna do,” said Michael. Chandler has surely put himself in a unique situation. The fighter is now a fan-favorite after the Gaethje fight and is sure to fight more big names in 2022.
Both the fighters that Chandler lost are now fighting in a title bout. Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje takes place on May 7th at UFC 274 which will decide the future of the lightweight division and also the next possible fight for Chandler.
