“Until he quits”- Kamaru Usman highlights his complete game-plan for the Leon Edwards fight
Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman
Kamaru Usman recently went through surgery of his ‘Money makers‘ after he had an injury while sparring and yet went on to face Colby Covington at UFC 268 last year. The ‘Nigerian Nightmare‘ says that he would have to make Leon Edwards wait until his hand heals up and is aiming for a late July or an August clash.
Usman also addresses Leon’s comment on how the fight between them might go. Leon said that Kamaru ‘wouldn’t be striking the way he does’ with him[Leon] in the octagon’, to which Kamaru retaliated by obliging and giving it to him that he is a good MMA artist who mixes it up well enough.
Kamaru had to add to that compliment tho as you just don’t hand out compliments in this sport without a drizzle of your own, says “I give it to you[Leon], I will not strike but will wrestle. I’m going to take him down and I’m going to beat on his face until he quits!!” Usman repeatedly says that he will not strike with Leon but display his superior wrestling skills to take it to the ground and lay some damage there.
Kamaru Usman talks about Trevor Wittman; Says he ‘lets me do me’
When Danny Segura asked Usman if he had talked to Trevor already about his ‘Gameplan’ against Edwards, Kamaru did let out a hearty laugh as Trevor is a more striking focused coach although Usman adds that that isn’t exactly the case.
Usman says that Wittman is just an amazing coach and the one thing he loves about Trevor is that he gives absolute freedom to his students by letting them do them. Usman adds that of course he is the mastermind behind the strategies but focuses on what the fighter wants to do and guides them in that very path.
“If I want to just wrestle with this guy[Leon] and beat his face in then Trevor is like ‘All right let’s get the win'” says Usman while feeling happy to have a coach like him. Wouldn’t you love to have someone like Trevor by your side? We love him and his well-executed master plans.
