Valentina Shevchenko has an elder sister named Antonina Shevchenko. She was born on November 20, 1984, in the Soviet Union, modern-day Kyrgyzstan. Antonina is three and a half years older than Valentina.
She started training in martial arts at a young age and inspired Valentina to follow in her and their mother’s footsteps. The sisters started training under Pavel Fedotov and joined him on his journey to Peru. Valentina and Antonina became martial arts teachers in Peru and became fluent in many languages.

Interestingly, people think that the Shevchenko sisters transitioned from Muay Thai and Kickboxing to MMA. However, that is not the case. The sisters started in MMA but decided to focus on Kickboxing.
Antonina Shevchenko made her MMA debut in 2002 and won her first three fights. However, she decided to focus on Kickboxing and Muay Thai for the next decade. Representing Krygzstan, she won the Muay Thai World Championships gold medal in 2003 and nabbed the silver medal in 2007.
However, in 2008, she decided to represent Peru. She won the Bronze medal in 2008 and went on to win the Gold medals in 2011, 2014, and 2016. She also has an impressive Kickboxing record with 39 wins and a single loss in her career.
