UFC Vegas 34 had Jared Cannonier vs Kelvin Gastelum headlining the main event. The fight marks a middleweight face-off between former interim middleweight champion and third-ranked UFC middleweight. This fight was very crucial for the middleweight title contention.
Kelvin Gastelum and Jared Cannonier fought for an amazing five rounds displaying some of the best fighting skills we’ve seen. A battle of endurance and sheer will was seen in the main event. Jared Cannonier got the better of Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Vegas 34. The fight took place in the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cannonier def. Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision. Michael Bisping, the former middleweight champion and MMA analyst had to give his two cents on how the scoring should’ve been. Bisping retired after his fight against Gastelum in which he lost. “29-28 for Cannonier after 3 if you ask me,” wrote Michael on Twitter.
Another veteran who is a former champion also gave his reaction to who he thought had the better fight of the two. Chris Weidman wrote, “Super close fight. Gastelum pushed the action and held the center of the octagon but Cannonier landed the bigger shots.”
If there is a UFC fight, there is no escaping Chael Sonnen’s criticisms. The “Bad Guy” is now a full-time analyst and he believed Gastelum was the one winning the fight. “That is an egregious misunderstanding of the unified rules. KG is winning,” he wrote.
The current king of the middleweight division, Israel Adesanya was a bit dramatic with his Twitter comment about the fight.
The current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling also reacted to the fight. He gave a short tweet summarising how he felt the fight went down. “KG has taken the shots well from Cannonier but man, does he look sharp tonight, Great footwork, the JC hasn’t been able to really figure out. I picked JC to win but KG proving me wrong!”
Some of the other fighters who reacted were Mike Perry, Belal Muhammad, Brad Tavares, and Giga Chikadze.
