UFC Vegas 41 was quite the roller coaster ride for both Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori. A fight that was on its brink of getting scrapped from the card somehow turned out to be a stunning display of fighting.

Paulo Costa made his return after a year to the octagon against recent title challenger Marvin Vettori. The two middleweight fighters agreed to fight each other at 205lb given the Brazilian’s difficulty in fighting. The fight was stunning as both the monsters gave it all. Vettori got the better of the Brazilian and won the fight via unanimous decision. The referees scored the fight 48-46,48-46, 48-46 favoring Marvin.

Costa, despite losing the fight had some bright moments and the fighter thoroughly believes he should have won the fight. In his interview with Megan Olivi after the UFC Vegas 41 main event, Costa spoke about his shock at seeing the judges scoring against him. “Yeah it was a very hard fight but I don’t agree with the referees and I don’t agree that he took one point for the first interpretation,” said Costa. In the second round of the fight, the referee deducted a point after ‘The Eraser’ poked the eye of Vettori.

Costa thought he had rounds 3,4, & 5 despite the judges scoring differently. The Brazilian said he did not expect the point deduction in the second round and was puzzled as to why there had to be such a decision when it was only the first interpretation. “The third, fourth, and fifth-round I clearly win so I don’t know why they give the victory to Marvin but congratulations to him he did a great job,” said Costa.

A lot of the spectators believed this fight was going to be one-sided given Costa’s attitude leading up to the fight. To everyone’s surprise, ‘The Eraser’ looked very good and put out a performance like a well-prepared fighter. Vettori still managed to get the better of him, credits to the Italian’s durability. “He is very durable. He had a very good chin. I put a very good kick on his head but I couldn’t finish the fight because he avoid the fight and recovered fast.”
