Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273
Aljamain Sterling is down to have fun at UFC 273, and he delivered a different fight altogether for former champion Petr Yan. Sterling, who was returning to the Octagon after a year, finally proved the doubters wrong as he retained his UFC bantamweight championship which he got in 2021 due to disqualification. Now, Sterling proved that he is a superior fighter to Yan and is all in to fight TJ Dillashaw next.
UFC 273 is taking place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, the USA. The card is headlined by Alexander Volkanovski defending his featherweight title against Chan Sung Jung. The co-main event was between Sterling and Yan only and the fight was a grappling heavy matchup where the former and the still undisputed champion got the upper hand via back control and not many but significant takedowns.
Aljamain Sterling is all about smiles when he gets Petr Yan’s back at UFC 273
In the midst of the rounds where Sterling was clearly dominating over Yan, Sterling decided to pull off a little smile as he knew he was having the greatest victory taking place outside the Octagon, against a massive wave of haters and trolls who dismissed him as a legit threat to Yan because the way the first fight ended between both back in March 2021, when Sterling had to accept the undisputed belt against Yan because of illegally getting knocked out.
This image below tells a thousand words of satisfaction from Sterling’s side to be able to perform dominantly against a champion after a year of layoff and coming off a career-threatening injury. In other words, Sterling is flexing his bragging rights.
What did you make of this moment out of the co-main event? Although Sterling had his moment, it was still a very close fight, but did you have Sterling as the winner of the rematch as well? Yan has called out for a trilogy fight in his post-fight interview since he believes that he won more rounds than Sterling. Sterling, on the other hand, wants a different opponent. What do you think should be next in both of the gentlemen’s respective careers?
