WATCH: Angry fans at T-Mobile Arena leave during “boring” Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier title fight at UFC 276
Fans walk out of the T-Mobile Arena during Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier
It is safe to say that UFC 276 main event fight did play out as advertised. Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier’s title fight has managed to “piss off” fans at the T-Mobile arena forcing them to walk out during the fight.
UFC 276 was one of the biggest pay-per-view events of this year. Headlining this PPV event on International Fight Week were middleweight king Israel Adesanya and dangerous contender Jared Cannonier. The event was stacked with amazing fights on the card but only a few of them managed to live up to their hype. One fight in particular that surely pissed a lot of MMA fans was the main event bout.
Israel and Jared fought a rather dull fight where there was not much violence involved. The reigning champ cruised his way to another title defense for his record books. Despite the amazing dominance Izzy manages to show in every fight, the lack of violence or exciting moments has really tested the patience of fight fans. to make a case in defense for the main event fight, it was never going to be easy to live up to the co-main event where featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski put on a masterclass against his fierce rival.
Is Israel Adesanya a “boring” champion?
This question might seem like a reach for a lot of Adesanya fans but the neutrals have expressed a lot of disinterest in the champion’s fights. Though Adesanya has some amazing highlight-reel knockouts and a memorable fight against Kelvin Gastelum, The Last Stylebender has failed to bring action inside the octagon in his last few fights. UFC 276 might have been the last straw for fans who watch the New Zealand fighter live as they walked out of the T-Mobile Arena before the 5th round.
It is also fair to say that MMA fans have been spoiled by promotions like UFC where they expect to see exciting fights from top to bottom which is highly unlikely. However, expecting to see a champion like Adesanya switch gears during fights is not an unreasonable ask. In the last two years, Israel has been part of four title fights and all of them have gone to the judges’ scorecards.
Izzy’s last knockout win comes against Paulo Costa at UFC 253. Adesanya is also been accused of being part of one of the dullest fights of all-time at UFC 248. Adesanya was challenged by veteran Yoel Romero and the two stars went the distance with combined strikes of 98. What are your thoughts on Izzy’s recent performances?
