Welterweight Alex Oliveira parts ways with the UFC- concludes 22- fight stint in biggest MMA promotion
Alex Oliveira
Welterweight Alex Oliveira is no more associated with the biggest name known amongst the mixed-martial-arts organizations. Oliveira, who was competing in the UFC since 2015, was known for his entertaining style of fighting that aimed at going for the finishes either by knockouts or submissions. Oliveira is 22-12 in his overall MMA career with an exclusive record of 11-10 in the UFC.
Oliveira has fought the likes of Gilbert Burns, Donald Cerrone, Kevin Holland, Shavkat Rakhmonov, Randy Brown, Niko Price, Gunnar Nelson, Mike Perry and many more. His victories include the likes of Tim Means, K.J. Noons, Will Brooks, James Moontasri, Carlos Condit, Max Griffin, and many more. Oliveira has a no-contest as well in his first fight against Means. At the age of 34, it’s safe to say that Oliveira has a decent amount of years left for his fighting days.
An unfortunate perspective- Alex Oliveira’s manager reacts to UFC release, where the ‘Cowboy’ goes next
As reported by MMA Junkie, Oliveira’s manager Alexis Davis came out to confirm the fighter’s release from the UFC. “It’s an unfortunate perspective of the sport that a fighter like Alex Oliveira, who winning or losing always lets it all hang out, ends up not being renewed after a string of losses,” Davis said. “But that is the present moment in MMA. Alex thanks the UFC for the opportunities! At 34 and healthy, he is sure to rebuild and put on many more great fights for everyone!”
Oliveira was suffering from a 4-fight skid in his UFC career, possibly the reason the UFC decided to let go of him. Where do you think Oliveira can come back stronger? As far as former UFC fighters are concerned, former UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s promotion Eagle FC has been hosting a bunch of well-known names that built their personal branding on the biggest stage in the world back in their UFC days.
Those fighters include the likes of former UFC champions Junior Dos Santos and Rashad Evans, former UFC flyweight title challenger Ray Borg and former lightweight Kevin Lee. Perhaps, Oliveira can also give it a thought to Bellator MMA which holds home for former UFC light-heavyweights like Ryan Bader, Phil Davis and Corey Anderson, former middleweights like Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi and former UFC lightweight champion, Benson Henderson.
