Dana White spoke about numerous things in the post-fight press conference of UFC 272, claims to have seen Khabib Nurmagomedov in a bad mood despite the fact that he was inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame‘ that night.

Khabib has had a rough journey to the top but also still holds the record for the longest-reigning Lightweight Champion of the UFC. Despite his health issues in the early days of his career, he worked his way through the division and remained on top. Khabib won the vacant championship by defeating Al Iaquinta at UFC 223 and went on to record three dominant title defenses against Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

In hindsight, Khabib was clearly not in a celebratory mood at all

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate Tagir Ulanbekov was beaten by Tim Elliott in the 272 prelims which was not only the loss of Tagir but also the first loss Khabib faced as a coach. Dana White suspects this might have been the reason Khabib was upset.

“He was p*ssed off tonight, I don’t know what happened to Khabib tonight. I kept telling him, ‘what p*ssed you off tonight?'” ~ Dana White

The judges of the fight scored it a little differently than what was expected, fans say that UFC clearly needs better judges. Coach Khabib did secure a win in the main event of the Early Prelims as Umar Nurmagomedov defeated Brian Kelleher in a dominant first-round win. This wasn’t of much help as Khabib still remained pissed probably because of poor judgment.

Khabib has always been a man of legacy, wanting to be the best of the best and to be crowned as the Pound for pound fighter of the world. This dream was realized just as he retired as the longest-reigning champ of the division, defending his belt against the best. Khabib’s dad would have been proud of him to see him leave the legacy he (his dad) dreamt of.

“I’m very good with Dana. All my life, when I was a fighter. I know a lot of fighters have a problem with him and all because of money. When I say in an interview or to my friends, I’m here to fight, not for money. I’m here to fight for my legacy. A lot of people don’t understand me. They misunderstand me. Now I understand why I have a good relationship with Dana, it’s because I don’t fight for money. That’s why. I never asked Dana or UFC about things involving money. My manager was dealing with them.”

Khabib talks about how he never ran into problems with the UFC President as he never cared about the money he made, says Manager took care of it while he focused on the next opponent. All in all, no doubt that the Dagestani was and still is one of the greatest of all times.
