Khabib Nurmagomedov is among the greatest fighters to ever compete in the UFC. He retired with an undefeated record of 29 wins and no losses. However, fight fans always question the nature of his victories against Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje. They feel that these fighters lacked the grappling skill to compete with Khabib. In an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, MMA analysts Luke Thomas and Joe Rogan dispelled such claims from the fans.

Joe Rogan and Thomas talked about the Justin Gaethje fight in 2020. Thomas said, “From the moment he got kicked, he initiated the takedown. It is 22 seconds from that to the finish. So, 22 seconds were apart, and 22 seconds later, you are unconscious. As we learned later from Daniel Cormier that rather than armbar him in front of his mom, he just Triangled him instead for showing a merciful nature.

Joe Rogan feels that Justin Gaethje is a highly skilled fighter, and Khabib dominated him without effort. Rogan praised Gaethje for masterfully taking down Tony Ferguson in their fight at UFC 249. He feels that Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Gaethje in less than two rounds to make a case for being the greatest lightweight ever.

The GOAT debate in MMA primarily features fighters like Jon Jones, Khabib, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Demetrius Johnson. However, in recent years, it has focused more on Jon Jones and Khabib. Joe Rogan had an interesting take on the matter.

He said, “Khabib is the greatest LW of all time for sure and maybe the greatest fighter of all time..JJ has a better resume, but Khabib has a better resume in terms of rounds of dominance..also he went through a harder division.”

However, after Jones defeated Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win the UFC heavyweight title, Rogan feels that Jones is the GOAT. Khabib retiring earlier than some legends will always be an argument against him in the GOAT conversations.
