Gilbert Burns, the Brazilian welterweight is one of the many talented fighters in the UFC. He has a jiu-jitsu black belt and is among the best grapplers in the UFC. Burns also has a welterweight title match under his belt.
As a grappler, Burns is a three-time World Champion and World Cup gold medalist. Gilbert Burns ranks #5 in the UFC welterweight rankings. Gilbert Burns has two brothers, Herbert and Fredrick with Burns being the middle brother. The story goes that one of the key players on their squad, Vitor Ribeiro, began jokingly referring to Burns’ older brother as “Todo-Duro,” which is Spanish for “Hardman.”
Everyone felt he was a tough guy, hence the moniker. Additionally, they viewed Gilbert as a more laid-back counterpart of his older brother. They gave him the moniker Durinho, which is Portuguese for “tiny tough guy.” That is how he earned the nickname “Durinho.”

Gilbert Burns vs Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287
This week’s UFC event is going to be one filled with action and excitement where Pereria and Adesanya go for the title match and Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns go head-to-head to fight it out. Masvidal had priorly prefaced that this fight will decide whether he would carry on in the UFC or hang his gloves.
The welterweight division has some of the most exciting matches scheduled on the calendar and Burns vs Masvidal is only the beginning. Burns, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the welterweight division, will strike it out with Masvidal who is currently ranked No. 11 in the division and an elite striker.
Masvidal is a UFC veteran and stands with a record of 35-16. He previously lost to Colby Covington and has on record pledged to eliminate Covington before retiring from the UFC. Meanwhile, Burns who holds 21 wins and 5 losses in the UFC will be looking to take down Masvidal with his grappling techniques. UFC 287 at Miami, Florida will be a match to witness.
