“Win through winning” Tai Tuivasa questions Aljamain Sterling’s disqualification victory at first Petr Yan fight
Tai Tuivasa- Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan
UFC Heavyweight Tai Tuivasa has given his own verdict on the much anticipated UFC 273 co-main event- a title unification rematch starring interim bantamweight champion Petr Yan and undisputed champion Aljamain Sterling. Tuivasa, who last fought through Derrick Lewis to get the greatest victory of his career via second-round knockout, jumped up to 9 places in rankings to secure a new ranking from #11 to #3 in the heavyweight division.
Yan and Sterling are heading into the rematch after a controversial first fight that ended in a disqualification move from Yan’s side taking his then undisputed belt away and making Sterling the new champion. Ever since that happened a year ago, Yan has fought once and that too a title fight itself for the interim title against Cory Sandhagen while Sterling took him to recover successfully from a grave neck injury. This matchup is for the one between an exceptional striker in Yan and an exceptional grappler in Sterling.
Tai Tuivasa thinks Petr Yan is too good for Aljamain Sterling
On Fox Sports Australia, Tuivasa, along with former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, talked about Sterling’s way of getting into Yan’s head via trash talk, the way the first fight ended and who’s the better fighter. Both Tuivasa and Whittaker landed on the same conclusion on the last bit.
“Like obviously Petr did the wrong thing but I don’t know,” says Tuivasa “It’s up to as a fighter I think you know if you win you want to win through winning but obviously I don’t know the rules to be honest so he did it well I see him playing it off with the whole booklet and stuff like that you know he’s living it up. But I think Petr Yan’s too good,” concludes Tuivasa.
What do you make of Tuivasa’s assessment of Yan vs Sterling as he chose Yan to be the better fighter? What do you make of his assessment of the way the first fight ended in Sterling’s favour? Who do you think wins the co-main event of UFC 273 and who do you think is next for Tuivasa? The main event of UFC 273 features featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski defending his title against Chan Sung Jung aka the Korean Zombie.
