“You had 25 minutes,” Ben Askren blasts Jorge Masvidal for post-fight behaviour towards Colby Covington at UFC 272
Jorge Masvidal- Ben Askren
For those who were not fond of Jorge Masvidal’s time at UFC 272, Ben Askren is added to that list as well. Masvidal and Askren, have a rather brief but beefed up history, and the ending to it couldn’t have gone any better for Masvidal. Masvidal and Askren squared each other off inside the octagon at UFC 239, where Masvidal pulled off the greatest performance of his career and also the fastest knockout finish in UFC history all while landing one brutal flying knee on Askren’s jaw.
Fast forward to 2022, Askren has left the sport while Masvidal headlines the Pay-per-view events on huge sales of his name, but the fights may not go in the latter’s favour these days. Masvidal is recently on a three-fight losing streak and has last lost recently last week when he succumbed to the pressure and pace of his former best friend turned bitter rival, Colby Covington’s wrestling at UFC 272.
Ben Askren keeps wondering why Jorge Masvidal showed he wanted more after the fight ended
Askren came onto MMA Fighting‘s THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani to talk about his interest in BitCoins, his time back during his days as an Olympic level wrestler, his relationship with the UFC over the years, and much more including his take on the UFC 272 main-event between his ex-opponent Masvidal and Covington.
“The thing that I get annoyed about is Jorge wanted to fight him after the fight,” said Askren “It’s like, you just had 25 minutes to do anything you want. I mean, you can’t eye gouge and you can’t bite, we have a couple of rules, but not a lot... You could do almost anything you wanted for 25 minutes, and now you’re going to act like you want more? Like hey, you had 25 minutes, freaking do it for him.”
What do you make of Askren’s take on Masvidal’s post-fight behaviour at UFC 272? Were you as annoyed as Askren at that moment? Also, what do you think is next for Masvidal and Covington in their respective career? As agreed by Askren as well, a fight with someone who’s a megastar and also is on a losing streak like Masvidal is Conor McGregor. McGregor matches Masvidal’s conditions and therefore the returning time for McGregor can sit well enough for Masvidal as well to prepare for him and therefore make up a megafight in the UFC.
