UFC 270 was an absolute drama. Francis Ngannou took on his former teammate Ciryl Gane in a five-round main event fight to defend his title. The heavyweight not only went into the fight defending his belt but also his honor, and integrity. Francis and the UFC have been in serious dispute regarding the fighter’s contract for the past few weeks.

After Ngannou managed to turn the odds in his favor and won the fight via decision against the more technical Gane, the fans were in for a shocker as the UFC President Dana White was nowhere to be seen when Ngannou was presented the belt. A custom that Dana has almost never missed in the past. The fans speculated that this was because White wanted to disrespect Francis given their bad relationship in business. Dana finally answers the question by talking to Laura Sanko in ESPN’s Q&A session.

“I wasn’t out there for the main event. I actually walked out of the arena right after the co-main event because there was stuff going on backstage that I was dealing with,” said Dana to Laura Sanko of ESPN. “For anybody to think that I was showing any type of disrespect towards Francis, I saw Francis all week, you idiots. I shook his hand, I said hi to him, I was out there for all the staredowns, the whole thing.”

Dana then went on to explain he would never do this to any fighter except for once when he walked away from the Anderson Silva fight in Abu Dhabi. “There’s only been one time I’ve walked out on a fight and made it very clear, showed up to the press conference and said this is exactly why I left. It was in Abu Dhabi with Anderson Silva,” said White.

Dana also was not present in one of the much-anticipated post-fight press conferences. Part of the reason why the Francis win was such a huge deal is that the fighter had everything in line. There are chances he won’t be fighting in the UFC again. What do you think about Dana’s reason as to why he missed the main event?
