There’s a reason Joe Burrow is nicknamed ‘Joe Cool.’ He doesn’t lose it when the rest of the Cincinnati Bengals fanbase is panicking over the team’s 0-2 start to the season. Ahead of the team’s matchup against the Washington Commanders this Monday, the quarterback is confident that he will lead the team to its first win of the season.
Monday night’s game is significant for another reason, the Cincinnati Bengals host the team’s Ring of Honor night at Paycor Stadium and will induct Corey Dillon and Tim Krumrie. The team has remained undefeated on Ring of Honor nights and Joe Burrow is confident that the team will go out there and win.
We pride ourselves on us not being able to tell if we win or lose at practice. We're going to go out and have fun and get our work in and get better. So we had a good day today. We've had a bunch of good meetings since Sunday, so we're excited.Joe Burrow told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com
Joe Burrow understands that no good comes out of him remaining hung up on the Bengals’ ugly start this season. All he can do is take the learnings from the losses and prepare for the next week. Last week, the Bengals almost won the game against their rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. If not for the pass interference call, KC would have been unable to set themselves up for a field goal and win by just one point.
The Cincinnati Bengals have gotten off to a 0-2 start in four of five seasons that Joe Burrow has been the QB
Despite his frustration after the loss, Burrow is no longer sitting on what could have been.
I wouldn't say I'm frustrated right now. I was frustrated on Sunday. We've got to focus on getting better every day through our practice, and go out and execute when we have to execute on Monday, the rest will take care of itself. We're in a fine spot. We've been here before. We're not panicking. We're focused on getting a win and getting better every day.Joe Burrow said
The past has been proof that Cincinnati is accustomed to getting off to a slow start. Except for 2021, when the Bengals beat the Vikings in Week 1, the team has lost the first 2 games of the season in all the other seasons with Joe Burrow as the QB. It is not an alien situation to them, and the quarterback is optimistic that they’ve found their way back in the past and this season will be no different.
There is another feat that the Bengals had managed to accomplish in the 2021-22 season – that was to make it to the Super Bowl. The team has been vying to get back there since. To prove that their run was not a fluke, Burrow will need to lead his team back to the big game and that would mean beating Kansas City in the playoffs.
If there is any team that has shown it can stand up to reigning Super Bowl champions, it is Cincinnati. Not to mention, Joe Burrow and Co would cherish playing the role of the villain that stopped Patrick Mahomes from having a chance to three-peat.
