Tim Hardaway recalled the insane LeBron James-Michael Jordan highschool pickup game
The myths surrounding LeBron James are far and many. While most seem outlandish on first glance, it becomes increasingly clear that many of the myths associated with James are actually real, further establishing how he’s a one-off in NBA history. One of these apparent myths was disproven recently when Tim Hardaway Sr. confirmed the details of the famed James-Michael Jordan pickup game.
In an appearance on The Draymond Green Show with co-host Baron Davis, Hardaway Sr. revealed details of the famous high school pickup basketball game, which saw an aging veteran, Michael Jordan, take on a 16-17-year-old high school senior, LeBron James. While many details of this story were unclear so far, Hardaway Sr. spilled the beans on what really went down inside the gym.
LeBron James and Michael Jordan did not get many opportunities to perhaps go mano-a-mano in the game, but Hardaway recalled a sequence where a teenage James saw a fastbreak opportunity and decided to go for a monster jam from the free-throw line before the ball accidentally slipped from his hands.

Tim Hardaway Sr. described the game as one that truly lived up to the hype, as he was there to witness it in person. He recalled how James, who had just come off a cast being removed from his broken wrist a week ago, entered the gym with grown NBA players surrounding him and proceeded to put on an absolute show.
LeBron James’ highschool games were more popular than his NBA games
LeBron James’ high school career was a phenom unlike any other ever witnessed. He was a superstar at basically 14 years old, with fans flocking to watch his games when he joined St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in 1999. Soon enough, he was making the cover of ESPN magazines and pulling in thousands to watch his games. However, on one of these occasions, James pulled in numbers that even his professional career in the NBA wouldn’t see for some time.
While playing a game as a high school senior at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, known as the Gund Arena at the time, James pulled in a sellout crowd. As James’ Fighting Irish took on Warrensville Heights for a crushing victory, James recalled how the crowd at the game was larger than the ones he witnessed during his early seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the same venue.
It truly is undeniable that LeBron James was a household name and a legend in the making before he ever stepped foot on a professional basketball floor. Right from high school, anyone who saw James knew they might be witnessing the greatest basketball player of all time.
