Having succumbed to Damian Priest inside a steel cage at Saturday Night's Main Event, Drew McIntyre is set for an extended time off from WWE.

Drew McIntyre didn’t have the best of outings at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He lost a Steel Cage match against Damian Priest, who won by escaping the cage. The Scot tried replicating his winning sequence over Priest from WrestleMania 41, where he’d hit a Claymore kick on The Street King against a steel chair tucked between the ring turnbuckles.
But this time around, Priest sidestepped, and McIntyre crashed his foot into the chair. The former Judgment Day member eventually hit a con-chair-to on the two-time WWE Champion, which was enough to keep him grounded while Priest exited the cage. With that loss, The Scottish Warrior is expected to go on a hiatus for the foreseeable future, per PWInsider.
Drew McIntyre will be off WWE TV for the foreseeable future.

SNME in Tampa was McIntyre’s last WWE date for now, and he’s believed to head off for an extended period of leave from the company. He was working through an injury, which was presumably aggravated from a brutal spot at the Backlash PLE. Many were initially speculating that McIntyre was taking a break from WWE so as to fulfill an imminent Hollywood commitment.
It was reported a while ago that the 39-year-old is lined up for a major movie role. McIntyre’s hiatus, however, isn’t linked to it at all, the aforementioned report cited. In fact, The Scottish Psychopath is going to be off WWE to cater to some personal reasons. He has worked relentlessly over the past couple of years or more to enter that upper echelon of stars who are referred to as the main-eventers.
Saturday Night’s Main Event outing adds to Drew McIntyre’s woes in 2025
The ongoing year hasn’t been kind to the WWE career of Drew McIntyre. He started off his year with an embarrassing roll-up loss to Jey Uso on the Netflix premiere of Raw. The Scot then had a forgettable Royal Rumble outing where he was tossed over the top rope by Damian Priest. McIntyre tried turning his fortunes inside the Elimination Chamber but ended up being the first man to be ousted from the match.

The WWE Universe was outraged by his booking at that point, and the discourse only exacerbated once they learned that The Scottish Warrior will battle Priest at WrestleMania 41. The general consensus wanted to see the Ayr-born wrestler compete for either of the world titles at The Show of Shows. Even though McIntyre beat The Punisher on the grand stage, it came across as a consolation prize for the pro-McIntyre audience.

Since WrestleMania, The Chosen One hasn’t done anything significant except for continuing his beef with the former Punishment Martinez. Now that McIntyre is going on a relatively prolonged WWE hiatus, one could only hope that things will be in his favor when he does return.
What else went down at Saturday Night’s Main Event?
While Saturday Night’s Main Event as a whole was pretty much a decent two-hour program put forth by WWE, the company did have Bronson Reed‘s return up its sleeve. In a move that no one saw coming, The Auszilla aligned himself with Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, with the trio being backed by Paul Heyman.

Reed laid waste to CM Punk, who had just lost the tag team match against Rollins and Breakker with Sami Zayn eating the pinfall. Apart from that, Zelina Vega retained her women’s US title match in a quite underwhelming affair with Chelsea Green. The latter even had her nose busted open.

In a non-title match, John Cena beat R-Truth. Cena met his Waterloo against a returning Cody Rhodes in the main event, which was a world title match between Jey Uso and Logan Paul. The American Nightmare challenged Cena and Paul to a tag team match with Uso as his partner at Money in the Bank.
