The internet churned up a number of theories by declaring Drew McIntyre as a transitional WWE Champion after he took the title off Cody Rhodes earlier this month. But a new report from BodySlam has suggested that the Scotsman is expected to enter this year’s WrestleMania as the Undisputed WWE Champion.
It implies that the company has no plans for McIntyre to lose the gold before its biggest show of the year. The aforementioned report also noted that the current plan for ‘Big D’ at WrestleMania 42 is having Cody Rhodes wrestle him in a rematch for the world title.
That part of the report has the majority of the fans up in arms, as doing Rhodes vs. McIntyre yet again would be an overkill, especially at a stage like WrestleMania.

As of right now, a rematch with Cody Rhodes is the likely match at WrestleMania 42.

But after what happened at Saturday Night’s Main Event over the weekend, a singles match between Rhodes and McIntyre isn’t looking likely at all. As the fans saw, ‘The American Nightmare’ got into an all-out brawl with Jacob Fatu before their match could even get underway, and it never did.
‘The Scottish Psychopath’ also made his presence felt to attack both Rhodes and Fatu in an absolutely chaotic start to the show in Montreal. As one could tell, it’s heading toward a three-way feud for the Undisputed WWE title, and this might very well end up as the WrestleMania match. Putting the world title on Drew McIntyre wasn’t a case of a long-term story paying off.
Instead, both he and Rhodes had been pitching to the creative team to put the title on him since last year’s Wrestlepalooza PLE. The company’s writers didn’t think the time was right back then, but that notion certainly flipped around by the time 2026 kicked in. Had McIntyre lost another world title match to Rhodes, it would’ve made ‘The Chosen One’ lose all his credibility as a main-event-level talent in WWE.
Drew McIntyre on being a world champion in WWE simultaneously with CM Punk
As soon as Drew McIntyre won the Undisputed WWE title, the fans found it extremely fascinating that they were living in a world where both McIntyre and the man he had the rivalry of the year with in 2024, viz., CM Punk, held the world titles simultaneously. Many had even called it the most deserving set of world champions that WWE has had in a very long time.

These men went to extreme lengths while being involved in a head-on feud. McIntyre and Punk produced one of the greatest Hell in a Cell matches in history, with the kind of bloodbath they had. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ was recently asked about him and Punk holding the world titles simultaneously and what it meant to him.
Speaking to the Sun Sport, the Ayr-born wrestler affirmed that he didn’t care about what was happening over on Raw. McIntyre also wasn’t interested in Punk’s personal life. As far as the ‘Second City Saint’ being the world champion is concerned, McIntyre said that he won the second-best title.

“I don’t care what’s going on over on Raw. I don’t care what’s going on in his life. Good for him, he won the second-best title. Second-best champion.

The former 3MB member asserted that he’s the top champion in the company, as the Undisputed WWE title has the greatest lineage. McIntyre said he would be regarded as the best in the world as long as he held on to it. The 40-year-old has his first title defense this weekend at the Royal Rumble, where he’ll take on Sami Zayn.
