It has finally come down to two, as sixth seed and local favorite Jessica Pegula will face second seed Aryna Sabalenka in the 2024 US Open final. This match is a repeat of the recent Cincinnati Open final, which Sabalenka won in straight sets.
This is Pegula’s third Grand Slam final overall and first in singles, having previously reached the 2022 Roland Garros women’s doubles final and the 2023 US Open mixed doubles final. The American has been improving in singles over the past 12 months. She qualified for the WTA Finals last year, losing to Iga Swiatek, before defending her Canadian Open title this year and finishing as the runner-up at the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka has returned to form after a challenging summer, during which she missed Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics. However, she redeemed herself by winning the Cincinnati Open, her first title since the Australian Open in January. She is not into her second consecutive US Open final after finishing as the runner-up to Coco Gauff last year.

Jessica Pegula entered the US Open after delivering magnificent performances during the North American swing. She successfully defended her Canadian Masters 1000 title before finishing as the runner-up in Cincinnati.
However, Pegula has elevated her game at the US Open. She reached her first Grand Slam singles final after coming from a set down in a titanic semifinal against Karolina Muchova. She also showed her prowess in the comprehensive 6-2, 6-4 win over top seed Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals.
On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka, like Pegula, has lost just one set en route to the final. That happened in a tricky third-round encounter against Ekaterina Alexandrova, where the Belarusian came from behind to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Sabalenka is currently on an 11-match winning streak, including her earlier success at the Cincinnati Open. She is aiming to win her third Grand Slam singles title overall and her first outside Australia.
