Novak Djokovic will be playing his fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal this season. In the previous round, Djokovic broke no sweat in clinching the win over Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff.
But in the quarterfinals, Djokovic is expected to face a lot of challenges. He will be meeting last year’s US Open runner-up, Taylor Fritz, who knocked out 21st seed Tomas Machac in straight sets in the fourth round.

Novak Djokovic vs. Taylor Fritz: Match Preview
The US Open is Novak Djokovic‘s first tournament since the Wimbledon Championships. There, he made the semifinals but failed to go past it, losing in straight sets to eventual winner Jannik Sinner.

It was Sinner who also stopped him from reaching the final of the French Open with a straight-set win in the last four. Djokovic also played the semifinals of this year’s Australian Open after knocking out Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. But in the semifinal, an injury forced the Serb to give a walkover to eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev.
This season, Djokovic has so far played two finals and claimed one title. At the Miami Open, Jakub Mensik clinched a straight-set win, but Djokovic was successful in overcoming Hubert Hurkacz in the final of the Geneva Open. It was his 100th ATP title, making him only the third man to reach the tally after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
En route to the quarterfinals, Djokovic dropped a set twice against two opponents. America’s Zachary Svajda took the first set off him in the second round, while Britain’s Cameron Norrie won the second set in the third round.
Taylor Fritz also dropped a set twice – against Lloyd Harris in the second round and Jerome Kym in the following round. Last year at the US Open, the 27-year-old failed to end American men’s Grand Slam drought with a straight-set defeat to Sinner in the final.
This season, Fritz has reached two finals and won them. Both these titles came on grass – at the Stuttgart Open (beat Zverev) and at the Eastbourne International (beat Jenson Brooksby).
Novak Djokovic vs. Taylor Fritz: Match Prediction
Before the US Open this season, Fritz made deep run in the Majors just once. It was at Wimbledon where Alcaraz knocked him out in the semifinals in four sets. Fritz so far has lifted just one Big Title. He claimed the 2022 Indian Wells Masters by defeating 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. But Djokovic’s last Big Title came last year.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 24-time Grand Slam champion beat Alcaraz to win his career’s first gold medal. Djokovic last lifted a Grand Slam title here in New York back in 2023 by defeating Daniil Medvedev.
Since that win, only once has Nole been able to reach a final- at the 2024 Wimbledon, which he lost to Alcaraz. In the ongoing event, Djokovic will enter the quarterfinal match against Fritz as the favorite to win, given that he has clinched the 10 matches they have played against each other.
The upcoming match will be their first encounter since their clash in the semifinals of last year’s Shanghai Masters (Djokovic lost to Sinner in the final). In all of these 10 matches, Djokovic has dropped just three sets.
Match prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in four sets.
