Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, is a rising freshman for the USC Trojans. Bronny committed to USC in May after receiving several offers from many reputable D1 schools. Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest while training with the Trojans. He reportedly collapsed while training and was immediately treated by USC medical staff and rushed to the ICU.
The James family PR team released a statement a month after his initial hospitalization. Bronny was diagnosed with a significant congenital heart defect. The James family is confident that Bronny can make a “full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future.“
According to the USC basketball head coach Andy Enfield, James is recovering and is back attending classes at USC. “The good thing is he’s doing extremely well, and he’s in class right now. And we all love him. I think everybody is hopeful that Bronny will return to the court. We just have to be patient and take it step by step,” Enfield said.

Lebron James’ dream to play with Bronny

LeBron James has often told the media that he dreams of playing with his son in the NBA. Similar to Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. in the MLB. Bronny James is eligible for the 2024 NBA draft, allowing him to enter the NBA in the 2024-2025 season. Bronny played his high school career with Sierra Canyon, along with multiple high-profile NBA prospects.
It is still unclear how Bronny’s heart condition will affect his ability to play and be drafted into the NBA. LeBron, who enters his 21st season in the NBA, turns 39 this year and is in the twilight years of his illustrious career. LeBron’s younger son, Bryce James, also shows NBA draft potential. Bryce is currently 16 and is eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft class. Bronny showed his skills off at the Nike EYBL camp and played with the EYBL team “Drifty Elite.”
The King’s dream to play with his children might still unfold due to his unbelievable longevity and ability to change with the game. LeBron made his 19th All-NBA team last season, which beat the previously held record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Lakers have added depth to their roster, allowing LeBron to play fewer minutes per game, keeping him fresh for the Playoffs.
