Days after the U-19 Asia Cup final heartbreak, India’s teenage cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi unleashed fury with the bat in a Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter. At 14 years of age, the Bihar batter became the youngest to score a hundred in men’s List A cricket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was one of India’s top batters at the recently concluded U-19 Asia Cup, where he finished with a tally of 261 runs in five matches at an average of 52.20 and a strike-rate of 182.52. He had slammed a brilliant 95-ball 171 in the tournament opener against the UAE. Suryavanshi looked in fine touch, until the final against Pakistan, where India lost by a humiliating margin of 191 runs.
In fact, the young Indian star was heavily trolled and criticised on social media for his temperament in the crucial run chase against Pakistan. Nonetheless, Suryavanshi, in line to feature in India’s U-19 World Cup campaign next month, has remained unfazed by the criticism. He started his preparations with a record-breaking innings for Bihar in a 2025-26 VHT Plate League fixture against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi.
Batting first for Bihar, the Rajasthan Royals star brought up his maiden senior List A hundred off just 36 deliveries, becoming the youngest player to do so in VHT history. He also raced to the 150-run mark off 59 deliveries, to surpass South African legend AB de Villiers for the fastest 150 in Men’s List A cricket. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed for 190 runs off 84 deliveries, with his historic knock including 16 fours and 15 sixes, at a strike-rate of 226.19.
Important contributions from skipper Sakibul Gani, who also smashed a 32-ball hundred, Ayush Loharuka (116 off 56) and Piyush Singh (77 off 66), helped Bihar race to a massive first innings total of 574/6. It stands as the highest-recorded total in List A cricket history, ahead of Tamil Nadu’s 506/2 vs. Arunachal in 2022. Gani’s whirlwind ton now ranks as the fastest List A century by an Indian, with Suryavanshi’s record-breaking knock fourth.

Furthermore, it adds to the plethora of records that Vaibhav Suryavanshi has to his name. Just last month, he made headlines at the Rising Stars Asia Cup by smashing 144 runs off just 42 deliveries against the UAE.
Pakistan fans target Vaibhav Suryavanshi as tensions between the two teams spill onto the U-19 stage
India U-19 star Vaibhav Suryavanshi was booed by Pakistani fans at the end of a one-sided final defeat against Pakistan at the U-19 Asia Cup. The post-match scenes, especially outside the venue in Dubai, where the game was played, are what left everyone surprised.

Suryavanshi, who was on fire from the very beginning in the 348-run chase against Pakistan U-19, scored a brisk 26 runs off just ten balls, hitting three sixes and a four. However, his stay on the pitch was not long enough, as he was dismissed by Ali Raza. The players from both sides engaged in verbal altercations during the game, with the 14-year-old left-hander and Pakistan’s Raza lashing out at each other.
Ugly scenes followed after the match, while the Indian players were heading towards the team bus. They were received by a section of Pakistani supporters, who heckled and booed them. In a clip that has gone viral on social media, Suryavanshi was also a subject of intense booing and heckling. However, the young batter showed great resilience, as he calmly walked away from the scene without any reaction.
Following the 2025 Asia Cup, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who has had ongoing disagreements with the Indian cricket team, accused the Indian U-19 squad of provocative conduct. He announced his intention to submit a formal complaint to the ICC against the team.
