The Dutchman Louis Van Gaal revealed that he wanted some big players at Manchester United. The likes of Neymar, Lewandowski and Mane were on the shortlist. Van Gaal became Man United’s boss in 2014 replacing David Moyes. However, he could only stay at Old Trafford for two seasons. He was then sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho.

Being unsuccessful in signing these big players, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has been without a job since then. “I wanted Robert Lewandowski. When this proved difficult I tried to get Gonzalo Higuain instead”, said the former Man United manager. “He was also interesting for the club in terms of selling shirts. For that reason, I also tried to get Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez.”

“Thomas Muller was on my wishlist too. I even tried to sign James Milner. For the defence, I wanted Sergio Ramos and Mats Hummels. Ours wasn’t the strongest in building from the back.” Van Gaal was always positive with a vision for the best Machester United. He also revealed that Tottenham and Daniel Levy missed a chance to hire the Dutchman before his turn at Man United.

Earlier, he was also in talks with Liverpool for the sporting director role. However, there was no end result to it. He also discussed some facts with the Liverpool executive Ian Ayre for a potential role at the Anfield. But, even after long sessions and a chat over dinner, he did not receive any confirmation or intimation about his selection or rejection.
