The Halloween night turned out to be eventful in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, as Edmonton Oilers star Vasily Podkolzin dropped his gloves just for the second time in his NHL career. In a fight with Nashville Predators’ defenseman Jeremy Lauzon, he would land some heavy punches and leave his opponent bloodied.
With the Oilers leading 4-1 in the third period, frustrations seemed to have kicked in for Lauzon. Around four minutes into the third period, he would shove his opponent lightly as the Oilers tried to find their way through the defense to add to their lead.
Podkolzin did not seem to like that shove and tried to push Lauzon out of the way. A fight quickly broke out between the two sets of players. At the start, Lauzon connected with some quick punches on Podkolzin.
Despite taking some shots from him, the Oilers star did not back down and landed a few hits of his own. He would connect with a perfectly timed punch and take down Lauzon. The Predators star was left bleeding following this altercation and headed straight towards the penalty box.

I would not stand up after taking that punch.

Podkolzin now has a 1-1 record when it comes to fights in the NHL. In his previous bout, he lost to A.J. Greer during the 2022-23 season when he was part of the Vancouver Canucks. Since joining the Oilers, he has impressed some people with his performances. The Russian international has managed two assists in his 11 games while averaging 11:22 minutes on the ice.
As for the Oilers, this win sparked to them a 5-5-1 record. With Connor McDavid suffering a lower-body injury and expected to miss around two to three weeks time, the offense of the Oilers led by Leon Draisaitl, will be hoping for more such results.
