‘If she’ll still dance with me,’ Venus Williams Reveals her Tokyo Olympic plans on pairing with Serena Williams

American veteran Venus Williams has been a legend in women’s tennis. She dominated the first decade of the 21st century and is a 7-time grand slam champion.
But the 40-year old didn’t have a great start to the 2021 tennis season. Although she showed some fighting spirit, she lost in the second round of the Australian Open 2021 in straight sets.
For her tennis career, at 40 age is not on her side. Winning another major seems highly unlikely for Venus and her best chance to a big win could possibly only be at the Tokyo Olympics.

Venus Williams is a very successful Olympian. She won the women’s singles gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The charismatic pair of the Williams sisters– Venus and Serena have won three Olympic gold in the women’s doubles event- at the 2000,2008 and the 2012 Olympics.
‘It’s a privilege being an Olympian’: Venus Williams
In the ‘Late Late show with James Corden’, Venus Williams was asked about her Olympic plans. Venus Williams has won 5 medals at the Games- 4 golds and 1 silver.
“Honestly, it’s a privilege being an Olympian,” she started. “When I played my first Olympics, it was just this moment of pure joy. I can’t explain it to you. It’s a moment of togetherness, peace, joy and pureness and the competition is beautiful.”
“It would be an honour to compete again,” she added.
Venus Williams seemed very hopeful for the Tokyo Olympics this year and said that she was devastated seeing the Games cancelled last year.
On asked if she would team up with her sister Serena in the doubles, she replied: “We would love to. I gotta ask her if she’ll still dance with me and be my partner.”
Venus and Serena have been the most successful pair in women’s doubles at the Olympics. They have won three Golds, at the 2000,2008 and the 2012 games.
