Anthony Edwards recently sparked outrage by suggesting that Michael Jordan was the sole player with genuine skill during the NBA’s early years. Edwards asserted that the majority of players in the 1980s and 1990s lacked skill. Back then, the NBA included stars such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, and Jerry West. As a result, Edwards’ statements appeared to be insulting to the sport’s former legends.

Now, veteran analysts like Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon took offense to Edwards’ comments in the past regarding the prior generation of basketball. Both analysts clapped back on the Pardon the Interruption show. Moreover, former NBA legend, Johnson put Edwards in his place for his comments, claiming that “he does not respond to guys who haven’t won an NBA championship.”

He sounds like a fool. He does. Nobody had skill but Michael Jordan?... He's got to look at these people because he is destroying NBA legends...You are taking generations of NBA stars and putting them on the trash heap. So stop it.

Edwards sparked controversy with his casual remark. Also, as Wilbon pointed out, it wouldn’t be surprising if he backtracked in some way. However, Edwards is known for his showman personality. One would not be surprised if he chose to ignore this situation and carry on with his duties. It remains to be seen how this story unfolds in the coming days.

Anthony Edwards once said even Michael Jordan couldn’t guard him

Anthony Edwards is one of the most exciting players in the NBA currently. He is having the time of his life as a professional basketball player. Edwards was a member of the Gold medal-winning Team USA side at the Paris Olympics. However, back in 2023, a confident Edwards made a bold statement regarding NBA legend, Michael Jordan.

It’s important to note that, NBA fans often compare Edwards’ gameplay to Jordans’ as there are similarities between the two. However, Edwards wishes the comparisons to Michael Jordan would cease, he stated in a conversation with Speedy Morman of Complex that the legendary GOAT himself would be unable to guard him in today’s NBA.

This was a huge statement coming from a young star who has yet to achieve anything in the sport as compared to Jordan. However, Edward is known for his confidence. Also, he had an outstanding season with the Timberwolves this past 2023-24 season. He will be hoping to achieve success as soon as possible and is ready for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
