Vicente Luque put on a stunning show against Tyron Woodley at the recently concluded co-main event of UFC 260. The win propelled him to number 6 in the welterweight division rankings, aiding his plans to shake up the division. Elsewhere, Nate Diaz, who hasn’t fought in almost 2 years, is making a comeback and will be taking on top-ranked welterweight Leon Edwards at UFC 262.

Speaking in an interview with MMA Junkie, Vicente Luque seemed quite disappointed that he didn’t get to fight Nate Diaz, despite making rapid strides in the division. However, the Brazilian believes that he will one day get to face top ranked welterweights like Leon Edwards, Colby Covington and added that he must be ready anytime.

Luque was quoted as saying, “There’s this fight (with Diaz and Edwards) happening. We have the title fight going. I think there are many different possibilities. I’m not totally disappointed to not get that fight, I definitely wanted to fight Diaz, but just the fact he’s going back to activity makes it more realistic that I can get a fight with him eventually. We’ll see how things go.” [via MMA Junkie]

He continued, “I think Leon Edwards would be a great test. Colby Covington would be another great guy (to fight). Because if you look at the champion right now, he is an amazing wrestler. He’s been developing his striking, but he’s an amazing wrestler. So if I want to be ready to beat a guy like that, I have to be ready to face tough competition like Colby, like Leon Edwards that are going to try to do the same thing against me. Just try to wrestle me and eliminate my striking.” [via MMA Junkie]

He finally said, “I feel confident I can fight those guys. Right now I am at the best point of my career where I can use unleash my striking and not worry about if I’m going to go to the ground.” [via MMA Junkie]

Vicente Luque (20-7) has a very impressive record in the UFC with 13 wins and just 3 losses. The Brazilian has never been finished in his career, with all his defeats coming either via. decision or submission. Can Luque reach great heights?
