Ever since Victor Osimhen became one of the best strikers in Europe, the Nigerian has been linked with moves away from Napoli. From Chelsea to Arsenal and even the Saudi Pro League, the rumors are never-ending.
Recently, several media outlets reported that the club would ‘offload’ the striker to the SPL, with Napoli striking up a deal with Al-Ahli. In response to the same, the player’s agent – Roberto Calenda – lashed out against the same, criticizing the way in which his client has been treated by the club and media.
Victor isn't a package to be shipped to make room. He still has so much to do in Europe. Osimhen is a Napoli player.Roberto Calenda told the press
Calenda also stressed upon the fact that Victor Osimhen‘s contract was renewed ‘recently’ with mutual interest. He also reminded fans that his camp turned down significant offers previously by respecting the club’s choices.
Calenda also called for his client to be respected. Tensions between player and club began when Napoli’s social media team released a controversial (which many claimed to be racially abusive) clip of the player.
Chelsea face Victor Osimhen conundrum as transfer window enters final stage
Enzo Maresca‘s squad may have more than 42 members at the moment. That being said, the club are desperately in need of a ‘solid’ No.9, hence the decision to not assign the same to any player. As of now, Osimhen to Chelsea has gotten quite the boost, following the player’s agent snubbing a move to Saudi. However, what acts against Chelsea’s pursuit of the player is his enormous wage demands and contractual obligations to Napoli.
The 25-year-old is under contract with the Italians till 2026 and has an enormous buyout clause of £110 million. As for his wage demands, the Napoli striker is looking to earn around £423,000 per week, which amounts to £22 million per year. If Chelsea are to acknowledge his demands, Osimhen will overtake both Romelu Lukaku and Raheem Sterling to become the highest earner at the club.
The Blues’ most recent performance may have convinced a few that the need for a striker is arguable. Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke orchestrated a 6-2 demolition of Wolves at Molineux Stadium, as new man Joao Felix also grabbed a goal on his debut. With both Lukaku and Sterling looking to force their way out of the club, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been suggested as a low-cost alternative for Osimhen.
