Napoli forward Victor Osimhen was surprisingly left out of the club’s squad for their 4-0 win in a pre-season friendly against KF Egnatia, amid transfer rumors. The 25-year-old center-forward has been in demand this summer, with Chelsea and PSG interested in signing him.

With renowned manager Antonio Conte‘s arrival as new Napoli boss, it has become very evident that the Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has no future at the Italian side. Osimhen has also expressed his desire to leave Napoli. The 25-year-old forward has been one of the best Serie A forwards over the years, scoring 76 goals in 133 matches for the Italian giants.

The former Lille forward, who joined Napoli for a record African transfer fee of €80 million, has a release clause of €100 million. PSG and Chelsea have shown significant interest, but negotiations are currently stalled. Moreover, his high price tag and release clause has been a significant hurdle, with both clubs reluctant to pay it.

Apart from the Blues and PSG, Premier League giants Arsenal are also interested in signing the talented number nine. Meanwhile, the Italian side is keen on signing Romelu Lukaku as a replacement, who previously played under Conte at Inter.

Ex-Napoli director Mauro Meluso admits club should have sold Victor Osimhen earlier

Former Napoli sporting director Mauro Meluso, who left the club this summer, admitted that the former Serie A champions should have sold Victor Osimhen, a year ago. He admitted some major regrets over his time with the club.

In a recent interview, Meluso acknowledged the club’s mishandling of the Osimhen and Piotr Zielinski situations. He believes that Napoli could have sold the Nigerian forward for a substantial fee last summer and utilized the funds more effectively. However, Osimhen’s rather average season has significantly lowered his market value.

We did something wrong in managing Osimhen. There had been a very high offer from one of the greatest teams in Europe. Maybe we could have sold him for a fee and we could have done something more.

Meluso also highlighted a similar situation with Zielinski, who has already joined Inter Milan. However, the former Napoli director expressed confidence in the club’s new signings and newly appointed manager Antonio Conte to enhance the team’s performance.
