Napoli-outcast Victor Osimhen received a wild welcome as he landed in Istanbul to finalize his loan move to Turkish champions Galatasaray. The 25-year-old forward agreed on a year-long loan deal, with an option in the deal that allows it to be extended until 2027. 

The forward was recently excluded from Napoli’s squad, having failed to find a way out of the club, and was also stripped of the number nine jersey in favor of Romelu Lukaku. A potential move to Chelsea fell through due to his massive price tag. Another transfer offer worth £80 million to Al-Ahli was rejected by the player, in hopes of staying back in Europe.

After being involved in a prolonged transfer saga, Victor Osimhen has shockingly decided to move to the Turkish side for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The Nigerian forward will join the club on a year-long loan deal. Galatasaray is set to cover all of his massive salary amount to £240,000-per-week for the season.

He arrived in Istanbul early in the morning in order to undergo his medical, and was greeted by a swarm of fans, wielding flares. He also performed his renowned ‘Cimbom’ celebration and chanted with the Galatasaray supporters, beaming with excitement. Having scored 76 goals in his last four seasons in the Italian league, he is expected to guide the side to glory, both in Turkey and in Europe. 

The Nigerian will link up with Galatasaray’s formidable attack, which includes Mauro Icardi, Michy Batshuayi, Dries Mertens, Baris Yilmaz, and Hakim Ziyech. A 100-goal season for the Turkish side is something to look forward to, this season.

New Galatasaray signing Victor Osimhen’s career over the years

Victor Osimhen joins Galatasaray, on a year-long loan deal, after a sour end to his relationship with former club Napoli. The 25-year-old forward has been one of Europe’s most prolific goal-scorers, playing in the German, French, Italian and Belgian league.

He started out at Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, before joining Belgian Pro side Royal Charleroi. After a stellar season on loan, he joined Lille in 2019 and was later welcomed at Napoli in 2020. The 2022-23 season was a remarkable one for the forward, scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances for them.

He ended as the Serie A Best Striker, also guiding his team to a historic Scudetto. The Super Eagles’ forward also played a pivotal role for his national team, helping them reach the finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and a third place finish in 2019.
