Seattle Mariners star Victor Robles was handed a 10-game suspension by the MLB for intentionally throwing his bat at an opposition pitcher. The 28-year-old’s decision to appeal this suspension ignited mixed reactions from MLB fans.

Robles came under the spotlight this past Sunday. While representing the Triple A-Tacoma Rainiers, he would lose his cool after being struck by a pitch. He would be hit with the pitch in the right upper body, which left him stunned in the 2nd inning.

The player would then lash out at Joey Estes, the Las Vegas pitcher, who hit him. In a move that sent shockwaves across social media, Robles would throw his bat at Estes.

While the umpire would immediately eject him, the benches would get clear. He would walk towards the mound in order to confront the pitcher.

He was not done there, though. In the dugout, he would pick up an entire bucket of sunflower seeds and throw in on the field while venting his frustration. Check out a video of the ordeal below:

Robles, who is on a rehab assignment, was handed a 10-game suspension for his conduct. He was also fined an undisclosed fee. As per his rights, he is now appealing this suspension in hopes of getting that sentence reduced by some games.

After the incident went viral, the fans were left divided. While many of them urged for strict action against him for losing his cool, there were some who defended him.

His 10-game suspension and his decision to appeal it have once again left the baseball fandom divided. While some trolled him for appealing this decision as the evidence was clear, some took his side and questioned the pitchers who had hit him.

Interestingly, this was the 3rd time in the previous 5 games that he had been hit. He was hit twice last Tuesday as well and seems to have some history with Estes. In a major league game last year against the Athletics, Robles was hit twice, once by Estes. He concluded last season with 4 HBP against the A’s.

In his Instagram stories, he would first express that the rehab was both physically and mentally challenging for him. He then pointed out how the passing of his mother had affected him. Robles also pointed out that he had been hit 5 times in his 15 at-bats.

Coming off a long rehab and being away from the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been increasingly hard, and I haven’t been myself lately. That’s not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I’m coming from.
