Things got a bit out of hand during a Triple-A game on Sunday. Seattle Mariners star Victor Robles would throw his bat at a pitcher in frustration after he got hit by a pitch.

Robles, who is rehabbing from a dislocated left shoulder in April, would represent Triple-A Tacoma and went up against Las Vegas pitcher Joey Estes. The incident between the two of them took place in the top of the 3rd inning when Robles’ team was 2-0 down.

A fastball from Estes would hit Robles in the right shoulder and nearly hit his face. The Mariners star did not take this kindly and fired back at the pitcher.

After taking the hit, Robles would pick up his bat and toss it at Estes. The home plate umpire would eject him immediately for this action.

However, Robles was not done there. After throwing his bat at the opposition pitcher, he would yell at him and charge towards the mound. The dugouts would get empty and try to keep this situation cool.

The 28-year-old would later throw down a whole bucket of sunflower seeds from the Tacoma dugout onto the field. He was later replaced by outfielder Victor Labrada.

This is not the first time that Robles had been hit by a pitch in rehab games. As per reports from MLB.com, this is the 3rd time in 5 games that the Mariners outfielder has been hit by pitch while playing for Tacoma.

This includes being hit twice last Tuesday (once by Estes). There seems to be some sort of history between him and the pitcher.

Since 2024, Robles has been hit 4 times by the Athletics. In a game in September last year, the A’s would hit him twice, one of which was from Estes. This could be the reason why Robles lost his cool and reacted angrily in the moment.

Taking to his Instagram stories, Robles shared a long message. In this, the player first apologized for his actions and expressed that the long rehab had been challenging both physically and mentally. He later pointed out how the recent passing of his mother had affected him.

Coming off a long rehab and being away from the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been increasingly hard, and I haven’t been myself lately. That’s not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I’m coming from.

This incident ignited mixed reactions from MLB fans across social media. While there were some who justified his actions and defended him, many urged for the league to suspend him. It remains to be seen whether an action will be taken against him or not.

Speaking of Robles, he has taken part in just 10 games this season for the Mariners so far. In his 44 at-bats in the major league, the outfielder has batted with a .273 average with 0 home runs, 3 doubles and 7 RBIs.

As for the Mariners, they are currently 2nd in the American League West Standings with a 68-57 record. Following 2 successive losses against the New York Mets, they are 1.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the race for the top spot in the AL West division.
