The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 122-86 in the final game of 2024. After losing 1-3 on their East Coast road trip, the Spurs took the lead the whole game and gained some much-needed momentum. It was all thanks to the combination play from Spurs’ star duo Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul in this matchup.
After defeating the New Orleans Pelicans, the Clippers, who have had an incredibly strong start to the season, just couldn’t stay up. In addition, Wemby and Paul combined well several times during the game to bamboozle the Clippers defense. In a particular play during the second quarter, Paul gave a backboard lob to Wemby to finish the attack garnering wild reactions from the crowd.
Despite the Clippers’ obvious exhaustion, the Spurs did it all that took to win a big game. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 27 points. Although he shot a dismal 1-6 from outside the arc and added nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks for good measure, his effect extended far beyond his lackluster shooting performance.

Rookie Stephon Castle had the game-ending block and scored 15 points off the bench. With 17 points of his own, Keldon Johnson also had a strong bench performance.
On the other hand, the Clippers only had 17 points from James Harden in the humiliating defeat. At the age of 31, Norman Powell, who is enjoying his best season yet, only managed to score 15 points and only made 30% of his 3-point attempts.
