There is no stopping Victor Wembanyama at the moment. The San Antonio Spurs center has been an unstoppable force in the NBA this season, especially over the last few weeks. With nine games to go, Wembanyama is making a strong case for himself in the MVP race.

Dwyane Wade, who is arguably the greatest shooting guard in NBA history, explained why he is a fan of Wembanyama from a mentality perspective on his podcast.

If you’re a basketball fan, you have to love this guys mentality. He has a little old school in him. We like the ‘I should be MVP’ talk. We don’t hear that no more. Everybody to nice and complimentary of eachother. He can be that way. Everybody can’t do that but the alien can. I do believe this is a guy who will win MVP in our league, championships, if he stays healthy he’ll accomplish all the things. DPOY, he’s going to get all those awards to put him with some of the greats.

Drafted by the Spurs as the number one pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Victor Wembanyama has taken the league by storm in his third season. He is a lock for the Defensive Player of the Year award and is the best two-way player in the NBA by a mile.

A few days ago, the Frenchman laid out a three-point case for why he deserves the MVP award this season. His statements have resonated well within the NBA community. Former NBA champion Isiah Thomas backed Wembanyama to win the MVP award over the rest of the field and even called him a championship player.

While Dwyane Wade has never been a regular-season MVP winner, he is one of the best to ever do it and knows what it takes to be great, as he is a three-time champion and a Finals MVP winner. Wembanyama’s competitive fire seems to have struck a chord with Wade.

Victor Wembanyama leads the MVP race

Victor Wembanyama is a gift from the basketball gods. He is an anomaly. The NBA has never seen a 7’4″ center move like a guard and can shoot from range. The Spurs have a bright future ahead with the 22-year-old leading the way.

The Frenchman is currently averaging 24.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, three assists and a league-high 3.1 blocks in 58 appearances. His performances in the last month has seen him surpass reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and climb to the top spot in the KIA MVP rankings.

The Spurs are currently on a seven-match winning streak. They are second in the Western Conference standings with a 55-18 record and are 2.5 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wembanyama has led the Spurs to their first playoff appearance since 2019. While Wembanyama and his teammates lack playoff experience, he is a player who can shift the tide single-handedly.

Skip Bayless on Victor Wembanyama’s MVP case

American sports columnist Skip Bayless, who is popular for being critical of LeBron James, had his say on Victor Wembanyama, making a case for himself for the MVP award a few days ago. Bayless is a renowned Spurs fan but was not on board with the Spurs star’s speech.

This young man to me because he has been campaigning several times for several weeks. Is getting dangerously full of himself a little prematurely. That he’s starting to believe he is the Alien, that he does already own this league. I remind everybody he’s still haven’t played one single playoff game in his life, not one. I would remind everybody that if you look at his regular season won, loss record in three years of pro basketball it’s 84-90.

During his speech, Wemby left no stone unturned and made it clear that he is going to go all out for the remainder of the regular season. The Spurs are scheduled to take on the Milwaukee Bucks at the Fiserv Forum on Saturday night.
