San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama had set the NBA stage alight during the 2023-24 NBA season as a rookie. He clinched the 2024 Rookie Of The Year award after his monstrous performances for his side. Just like every rookie, Wembanyama also had his ‘favorite heroes’ around the sport growing up.
However, it did not turn out well once he got drafted into the NBA in 2023. Wembanyama reportedly experienced a few “never meet your heroes” moments when he came across some of the best players in the league. He opened up about this matter to Sports Illustrated, stating that there were some players ‘that don’t put in the work they should be putting.’
In a good and bad way, it’s how the best of the game are. In a good way, some of them are really impressive and inspiring in the way they approach the game every night. But others that I used to like, now it’s like, I’m just not sure they deserve it. They don’t seem like they put as much work in as I thought.

Victor Wembanyama has been one of the best additions to the San Antonio Spurs squad in recent years. So much so that, he has got his teammates excited. Veteran star, Chris Paul is one of them.
In Paul’s brief tenure with the Spurs, he has been blown away by Wembanyama’s incredible abilities. CP3 told the media about the remarkable skills he has seen in the 7-foot-4 phenomenon during team drills.
It’s wild, I mean, to see the talent, especially Vic with his ball handling… he hit a running one-legged three today and I was looking, and I just remembered looking up and saying ‘holy s**t that was a tough shot.’

The 20-year-old is known for his hard-working approach and seems to set the blueprint for other stars to follow. Hence, it will be interesting to watch how the Spurs perform in the 2024-25 NBA season.
