Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama has made history as the first rookie to be named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team. The San Antonio center had received 98 out of 99 votes, as he joined DPOY Rudy Gobert, Bam Adebayo, Herb Jones, and Anthony Davis on the first team.

Wembanyama’s achievement is a rare feat, as he is only the sixth rookie to be named to the All-Defensive Team in NBA history. The other five rookies all made the second team in their first seasons. Victor Wembanyama‘s selection is a testament to his impressive defensive skills and his impact on the court.

The All-Defensive Second Team consists of Alex Caruso, Jalen Suggs, Jaden McDaniels, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday. Rudy Gobert, the Defensive Player of the Year, has now been named to the All-Defense First Team seven times, while Anthony Davis has earned the honor five times, including three first-team selections.

However, Wembanyama’s historic achievement may not be his only accolade this season. If he is named to the All-NBA Team, which will be announced on Wednesday, he will become the first rookie to do so since Tim Duncan in 1998.

Fans react to another Victor Wembanyama’s history-making moment

San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation and 2023 NBA Draft number one pick etched his name in the history books when he was named into the All-Defensive First Team as a rookie. A season that has seen him break and set numerous records despite his team languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Fans took to social media to express their joy at what they had just witnessed by a player who was taking the league by storm. One user jokingly wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “He needs to be tested immediately. Something isn’t right and we need to get the bottom of this!!” Here are the other social media reactions:

Furthermore, the Spurs now need to build their team around the 2024 Rookie of the Year and get him the necessary support and players to back him up. Many analysts and fans think he could have been the DPOY but his team’s abysmal performance ruined it and it’s just a matter of time before everything gets in line for the Frenchman.
