Victor Wembanyama is not just an unreal specimen of a basketball player, possessing unheard of skill for a player measuring beyond his listed 7′ 4″ height.

He is also an avid reader, and does not delve into matters that other young athletes of his generation who earn a lot of money usually do. He is aware of his goals in life and has a pretty good idea of how to achieve them.

In the offseason, that journey to that goal saw him spend a lot of time among monks in China. Now, all that work is proving its worth, as the San Antonio Spurs star is leading his team to wins and is an early MVP candidate.

On defense, his impressive length and blocking ability typically mean players avoid going up against him. But on the odd occasion, someone might feel a bit motivated to challenge the Frenchman at the rim.

While playing against the Miami Heat, Bam Adebayo decided he had enough space to go for a slam dunk. After the game, reporters asked Victor Wembanyama if it was worth taking the risk to try to block every dunk or shot.

Until I’m getting dunked on more than I block shots, I’m going to keep going. But none of us are gonna live to this day.

Victor Wembanyama replied

His words suggest that he is confident that he is going to block more shots than he faces dunks. He also believes the day will not come when he faces more dunks than his stops at the rim.

Victor Wembanyama reflects on his celebrations after setting franchise record

The San Antonio Spurs welcomed the Miami Heat, knowing this would probably be their toughest battle of this month. But when Victor Wembanyama started celebrating with a few moments to go, it seemed as if he was sure of victory.

When sitting in the media room, reporters asked what led him to celebrate before the game was over. To this, the 21-year-old replied with a smile:

That is the feeling like, it’s like the exclamation point, when we have 99% chance of winning the game. It’s just me feeling the energy. It feels great because it was a hard game… I was just proud being a Spur in that moment.

Victor Wembanyama replied

Wembanyama was referring to the history he and his teammates created when they won against the Miami Heat. It was the first time in franchise history that the Spurs won their opening 5 games.

Devin Vassell talks about high arching alley-oop to Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama has been dominating in ways the league has not seen before. His impressive length helps him do things that other players cannot imagine. While speaking with reporters, Devin Vassell was asked about a high-arching alley-oop he threw to his center.

Me and Vic literally do lobs probably every day or every other day while we are in shootarounds. It just felt like practice at that point. He literally says throw it to the Moon, and that was at the moon, and he caught it.

Devin Vassell replied

That lob flew up and above the rim, and was far enough to avoid any opposing defender. Wembanyama caught the ball as it was moving beyond the backboard and threw down a dunk.
