Another team adds to the list in a bid to acquire the Suns star Kevin Durant during the upcoming NBA trade market.

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant remained with the Phoenix Suns despite a crazy NBA trade deadline that saw some of the league’s greatest talents move. Even though it seemed like Durant would be joining the Golden State Warriors again, the two-time NBA champion chose to stay with the Suns as they try to qualify for the playoffs.

However, as per an NBA insider, Brett Siegel the San Antonio Spurs may be cooking something big this offseason. Given their roster’s assets, the San Antonio Spurs might be considered a dark horse candidate for Durant. With the Spurs having the star duo of Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox, Durant would pay attention to the possibility of joining the Spurs side.

There have been whispers among league personnel about the possibility of the Spurs pursuing Durant and creating the best offensive trio in the league next to Fox and Wembanyama.

Brett Siegel said

The NBA landscape might change if the Spurs were successful in acquiring Durant. With an average of 26.9 points per game, 53% from the field, and 43% from three, the former MVP is still playing at an All-NBA level. With Fox, Wembanyama, and him on the team, they may create a potent duo.

Only a handful of clubs in the entire league could match their variety and firepower, making them automatic contenders in the West. Interestingly, any team would benefit in the NBA if Durant were to sign for them.

Phoenix Suns reportedly looking for an organizational reset

The Phoenix Suns might be about to undergo a whole organizational overhaul, as Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report has detailed a crazy four-team transaction that might completely alter the Western Conference. The plan would essentially end the Suns’ brief superteam period by sending Devin Booker to the San Antonio Spurs and Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.

Following is the detailed 4-team trade breakdown:

Phoenix Suns get: Aaron Holiday, Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Jabari Smith Jr., Devin Vassell, and First-round picks of the 2025 Suns (via the Rockets), 2025 Spurs (unprotected), 2027 Heat (via the Hornets) and 2029 Spurs (protected), as well as a $12.7 million trade exemption.

San Antonio Spurs get: Devin Booker, Josh Okogie, Jeff Green, Jae’Sean Tate, and a $5 million trade exception

Houston Rockets get: Kevin Durant

Charlotte Hornets get: Jock Landale, Malaki Branham, and 2025 Hawks First-Round pick (via Spurs)

Phoenix’s current strategy isn’t effective. The club has struggled despite having three All-Stars in Durant, Booker, and Bradley Beal. This is primarily because of a lack of depth, injury problems, and subpar defensive players. This trade proposal returns several young players and future first-round selections while sending Durant to the Rockets and Booker to the Spurs.

After years of asset depletion, the Suns reclaim both cap ease and future control in a league where versatility is crucial. They are on a sustainable rebuild route thanks to the possible inclusion of high-upside players like Sheppard and Whitmore as well as the reacquisition of their initial 2025 first-round choice.
