- Victor Wembanyama's arrival has revitalized the San Antonio Spurs, leading them to second place in the Western Conference.
- Charles Barkley humorously commented on the Spurs' success and his need to visit San Antonio more often.
- Wembanyama expressed surprise at the physicality of the New York Knicks during their recent game, which ended the Spurs' 11-game winning streak.
Before Victor Wembanyama arrived at the San Antonio Spurs, the franchise was struggling to remain relevant, with Gregg Popovich going through many iterations with not much success.
Naturally, the legendary coach needed a new building block for his team, and the Frenchman landing in their palms was the best way to start their new journey towards success.
Coach Pop’s health issues, along with Wembanyama’s own trysts with blood clots and various other nicks, stunted their growth in the first two seasons of his career.
This season, the Spurs are currently second in the extremely competitive Western Conference and third overall in the league. Despite that, Charles Barkley picked the New York Knicks to defeat the Spurs in their game at Madison Square Garden earlier.
However, his Inside the NBA colleague Jalen Rose reminded Barkley that he might as well get used to traveling to San Antonio to cover Victor Wembyanama and his resurgent Spurs. To this, the 63-year-old said:
I’d have to double up on the Ro.
Charles Barkley said
Hearing this, an already chuckling Shaquille O’Neal asked why he would need to double up on his weight-loss pills. This led Charles Barkley to bring out one of his all-time classic jokes.
Them damn churros. I understand your problem down there in San Antonio. Those churros are good.
Charles Barkley replied
"Those churros are good." 🤣

As he was gesturing how to eat churros with both his hands, he reminded fans of his famous jokes concerning San Antonio and their struggles with weight. But thankfully, for O’Neal, the ‘Round Mound of Rebound’ did not troll that city’s women.
Victor Wembanyama surprises Madison Square Garden employees
It was surprising to the rest of the Inside the NBA colleagues after Charles Barkley picked the New York Knicks to win. After all, Victor Wembanyama and his San Antonio Spurs were on an 11-game winning streak.
Wembanyama, he’s my favorite. Oh my God!!! Boy, you is tall sugar. Oh my good lord. Bless you.
A Madison Square Garden employee said
It seems even the ladies working at Madison Square Garden were in awe of the 7’4″ Frenchman as he waltzed into the Mecca of basketball.

They realized why he had become such a problem for his opponents, as they cannot seem to get a handle on his elite combination of height, skill, and aggressiveness.
The 22-year-old politely greeted them with a smile, as he knew they were only trying to let him know how amazed they were by his height. But soon, that smile vanished.
Victor Wembanyama talks about Knicks physicality after loss
Wembanyama sported that smile as he knew that he and his teammates were about to face a New York Knicks who were struggling with consistency.

After holding their ground in the first quarter, the Spurs were surprised by how the home team deployed its physical tactics to throw the away team off balance.
Even though Wembanyama had a highlight-reel worthy moment, he could do nothing to stop the Knicks from steamrolling over his team. After the game, when reporters asked about the physicality, the center replied:
I was surprised. Yeah. They’re a good basketball team. They have good actual basketball players. It’s not like the nastiest ugly team you know. They’re not an ugly team to watch, but they made our game ugly.

His answer clearly indicates that he and his teammates were rattled by the men in blue, white, and orange. Now that their 11-game winning streak is over, the Spurs might be forced to rethink their strategy when facing teams that use their physicality to switch the tone.
