In Victor Wembanyama and Cooper Flagg, the NBA has two of the most talented young prospects to come into the league. That prompted them to schedule a game between the two on the 2nd night of the 2025-26 season.

With Kyrie Irving out for most of the season, the Dallas Mavericks prepared the Duke star to play a significant role. He was to become their most important playmaker until their star point guard returned.

The 6′ 9″ star can handle the ball, can defend well, and can score in bunches. He had given a glimpse of what he could do in the preseason, and there was reason for Mavs fans to be optimistic.

Entering this game, there was hope that the retooled Mavericks would be able to get their first win of the season at home. However, starting from the 2nd quarter, they did not expect the other Texas-based team to take over.

At the head of the snake was Victor Wembanyama, who seemed to be toying with his opponents. Whether it was Anthony Davis, one of the better defenders in the league, or Derek Lively, or PJ Washington, or Cooper Flagg, no one was safe.

Whether it was leaving one Mavericks’ player hanging, or bodying up and still finishing a shot, or even spinning past defenders and throwing down a two-handed tomahawk slam dunk, the Frenchman looked unstoppable.

There was a sequence when he blocked Lively’s shot high up in the air, went back the other end, crossed the Mavs center to create space, stepped back, and shot a high-arcing 3-pointer. It became a 4-point play as Lively fouled Wembanyama as he came down on the floor.

Fans in awe watching Victor Wembanyama school Mavs

Victor Wembanyama finished the night with 40 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks. It was the kind of statement performance that left everyone with their jaws wide open.

Many players score such points, but it was the manner in which the center toyed with the Dallas Mavericks that left fans stunned. They could not believe that a player that tall would make his opponents look average. Check out some of those stunned reactions below.

Victor Wembanyama has put the NBA on notice. After losing to Team USA at the Paris Olympics last year, he had issued a warning. But due to health reasons, he could not come true on his promise. This season, he has come prepared and wants to ensure that he wins.

Victor Wembanyama not taking the NBA for granted anymore

Victor Wembanyama‘s exploits saw his San Antonio Spurs win by a score of 125-92. That 33-point win was a result of his domination, which left the likes of Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks seemingly succumbing to defeat.

He has had such bursts of high-scoring games before, but never with the authority he displayed in this game. When asked about his health and mental space, the 21-year-old replied:

I am much more in control of myself. The mind, I’m not worried about, cause I saw what it’s like to be confronted with potentially losing a lot, whether it’s your career, or your health. I’m not taking this for granted anymore.

Victor Wembanyama replied

He added that he still has some ways to go to be as fluid in his movement as he could before his health scare last season. He vowed that he was only going to get better as the days pass.
