Victor Wembanyama will get ‘easy baskets’ playing with veteran Chris Paul, claims Kevin Garnett
Former NBA star Kevin Garnett believes Victor Wembanyama will now get an easy run in games because of Chris Paul in the Spurs team.
Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul
Victor Wembanyama has been tipped for bigger performances in the upcoming NBA season, especially now that Chris Paul has joined the team. This was the view of former basketball star Kevin Garnett, who is very optimistic about Wemby’s prospects.
Garnett appeared on All The Smoke Productions recently. There he voiced out his high hopes for the Frenchman’s career progression.
Wemby, I felt like last year, he didn't get any easy baskets. I feel like everything he got was hard or challenged. And rightfully so, you know, you playing in the best league in the world, with the world's best players, right? Playing with Chris Paul, he's gonna get some easy baskets or easier baskets. And look for San Antonio to be ran better, to be more organized.Kevin Garnett said
The 48-year-old is widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards the game has ever seen. And with him being bullish on Victor Wembanyama in the league, it’s evident the Spurs prodigy is highly rated. According to Garnett, Wembanyama will thrive and score more points in games, now that Paul is part of the team. He further asserts that not only will the 20-year-old get a free run this season, but the Spurs will also become much better.
The San Antonio Spurs swooped in for Chris Paul last year after the point guard was waived by the Golden State Warriors. Following this, Paul went into free agency and then signed a 1-year contract with the Spurs worth $11 million. With the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the NBA last season, the veteran is just who the Spurs need to lead their young team. A sentiment that is echoed by Garnett himself.
Chris Paul opened up on playing against Victor Wembanyama
Chris Paul is a 12-time All-Star and a member of the NBA 75th anniversary team. His reputation indeed precedes him and little wonder he was seen as a great addition by the San Antonio Spurs. Paul had faced off against Wembanyama last season and got a chance to see his quality up close.
Nonetheless, shortly after he signed with the Spurs, a video of the 39-year-old talking about playing against Victor Wembanyama surfaced online. In that interview, he singled out the teenage prodigy as different, and disclosed how they would discuss him after games.
Oh man, Wemby is different. Wemby is the guy that, after the game in the locker room, we all was talking about playing against him.Chris Paul told Pat McAfee
While he is widely regarded as one of the best point guards ever, Paul has still not won a championship in his remarkable career. As he starts a new chapter in San Antonio, he will be looking to hopefully get his foot into the NBA Finals.
