Victor Wembanyama is the franchise cornerstone for the San Antonio Spurs. He is too important for the team in their hopes to become competitive for the next decade or two. At the same time, they are wary of his health, which has a major impact on their results.

In his rookie season, many attributed his lack of heft could impede him from truly becoming great. He took care of it, despite openly denying that he had gained weight. That additional bulk helped him take the battle to the best of the best.

This past season, it was expected that he would build on his rookie season performances, but an unfortunate deep vein thrombosis forced him to end his sophomore season early. In the meantime, the franchise added additional players to improve its roster.

Victor Wembanyama has mostly been recovering over the past several months. He even took a trip to China to live among monks and learn their ways. This excited fans as they believed the French phenom was taking a different route to channel his greatness.

After a brief return to the States to be a part of the Fanatics Fest, the 21-year-old is back on the East. This time, he is in Japan, where he has taken to soccer. One of the first videos to come out was the lanky 7′ 3″ center hitting a perfect free kick.

Now, another video came out, this time, involving a bit of acrobatic skills as the Spurs star attempted a bicycle kick. The only problem was that the ball missed his gigantic size 20.5 foot despite stretching his lanky leg out. He fell on the ground on his back and then rolled over to chuckle at his embarrassing miss.

Fans take a deep breath watching Victor Wembanyama fall

San Antonio Spurs fans gasped for breath when they watched the video of Victor Wembanyama falling on his back. They believe he is flirting with serious injury. Fans are aware that Jaren Jackson Jr.‘s injury to his toe will force him to miss a couple of months at least.

Knowing how important the superstar’s back is to their hopes of competing deep into the playoffs, fans begged Wemby, as he is affectionately known, to stop risking injury in this manner. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Usually, athletes get to do what they want in the offseason. Playing soccer, or pick-up basketball, is unlike what former No. 2 overall pick Jay Williams did when he crashed a motorcycle in his sophomore season, severely injuring himself.

That was a direct violation of his contract, and he would never play in the NBA again. Fans understand that what Wembanyama is doing is not as severe or senseless. Still, they want the Spurs’ franchise cornerstone to take it easy and not get injured.

Healthy Victor Wembanyama will have a solid supporting cast around him

Whenever Victor Wembanyama returns to the San Antonio Spurs, he will join a team brimming with talent. The oldest players currently on the roster are Harrison Barnes and Luke Kornet. De’Aaron Fox is the next oldest at 27.

Despite their low average age, the Spurs have a lineup that could develop to become a serious threat. Wembanyama just has to work out with his current teammates how to maximize their potential. Once they do that, the Spurs will be one of the teams to watch.

The franchise is known to be good at drafting and has picked Chris Paul‘s replacement. That was a sign that the players learnt what they had to, and now they are ready to move on from the 2nd oldest player in the league.
