The San Antonio Spurs most recently played against the New York Knicks at the Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day. The Knicks came out victorious in a close matchup by 117-114 against the Spurs. Notably, this was Spurs star Victor Wembanyama‘s Christmas Day debut at the MSG. It’s safe to say that Wemby did not disappoint.

Wemby amazed the fans with a game-high 42 points and 18 rebounds. Making his debut on Christmas Day, the 20-year-old Frenchman joined Wilt Chamberlain and Nikola Jokic as the only other NBA players to record 40+ points and 15+ rebounds in a Christmas game. Not only that, this also led to former NBA champion, Kendrick Perkins, showering immense praise for the youngster.

Having been compared to the likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James showcased the type of performance Wemby had against the Knicks. In addition, his 42-point effort was the third-highest in the history of Christmas Day debuts, only surpassed by Tracy McGrady (43), and Chamberlain (45).

As for the Knicks, Mikal Bridges led his side in scoring, dropping 41 points on the Spurs. The Knicks are now second in the East and are looking stronger after each game in the NBA. Their 15th victory in 19 games demonstrated their tenacity and brilliance on the court on Christmas Day.

Just one season ago, the Spurs drafted the French phenom, Victor Wembanyama as their 1st overall Draft Pick during the 2023 NBA Draft. Little did they know that Wemby would go on to develop swiftly, winning the ROTY 2023 in his first season.

The young French star followed it up with sensational performances in his second season. Most recently, Wemby played against the New York Knicks where he suffered a harsh loss but made a clear statement after the game.

I don’t think it was a game about momentum, I think it was a game about being dawgs when the clock starts going down… They didn’t win against us because they played better basketball. Not at all.
