Victoria’s Premier bluntly rejects Novak Djokovic’s quarantine demands
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, world number one has always been never shied away from voicing his opinion. In a letter he reportedly sent to Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia, the Serbian demanded better quarantine facilities which included the likes of better fitness and training arrangements, food, permission to visit one’s coach.
However, in a blunt response to Djokovic’s demands, Victoria’s premier, Daniel Andrews has rejected all of them, stating that people are free to demand anything they want, but it will not be granted.
“People are free to provide lists of demands. But the answer is no,” he said. “That was very clearly laid out beforehand. So the notion that there’s been any change, the notion that people weren’t briefed – I think that that argument really has no integrity whatsoever,” said Andrews.
There’s no special treatment here: Andrews
Daniel Andrews, Victoria’s premier has made it clear that all players were informed of the quarantine protocols and facilities ahead of their arrival in Australia. He asserted that no player is entitled to receiving special treatment. Many players claimed that they were not informed whether they would be forced into hard quarantine if a member on a flight tested positive for covid-19.
“They were all briefed on that before they came. And that was the condition on which they came. There’s no special treatment here,” Andrews told reporters.
“There’s still plenty of time for two weeks of quarantine and a buffer that’s built in before February 8 before the tournament starts, and we’ll just have to be guided by the test results that come back from people who have been, by virtue of being on a flight with people who have tested positive, despite having tested negative before they got on the plane,” he added.
