The woes continue for the Carolina Panthers at the quarterback position despite the substitution of Andy Dalton in place of Bryce Young. While there has been a noticeable improvement in the quarterback play for the team, Carolina continues to be Carolina.

In the Panthers’ Week 7 matchup against the Washington Commanders, it took just under 4 minutes for the visitors to make their first blunder. Veteran Andy Dalton was facing the pressure on a 3rd & 9 play from the Commanders defensive line. In an attempt to get rid of the ball, he made a quick pass.

Except he ended up passing the ball right into the hands of linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. Dalton was looking for Miles Sanders but before the running back could turn around and get his hands up to catch the ball, Fowler was right there waiting for the catch. The veteran rushed it and wound up paying. Dalton would have been better off getting rid of the ball. Ultimately, a punt is better than an interception and subsequent touchdown.

The Carolina Panthers’ offense ranks amongst the worst in the NFL

Fowler Jr. wasted no time in taking the ball to the end zone with nobody to stop him or chase him down. Andy Dalton made an attempt to bring him down but Fowler hurdled over him with ease and scored the Commanders’ first touchdown of the game.

This play is just the tip of the iceberg of the struggles faced by the Panthers’ offense this season. Carolina is averaging 298.5 yards on total offense per game and has scored 11 touchdowns so far this season. It ranks behind the Jaguars and Dolphins, both teams that have had their own set of woes on offense this season.

Carolina switched from Bryce Young to Andy Dalton after disappointing performances by the rookie. The veteran came in and helped the team secure its first win but after that, the optimism waned as the Panthers lost the subsequent week. Carolina sits at the bottom of the NFC South. The team has a lot of roster requirements that need to be filled such as a better offensive line, stability at the quarterback position, and a better environment to thrive in.
