After months of searching, the Chicago Bears have found their new head coach, whom they believe will help develop rookie Caleb Williams and coach the team to glory. The franchise has officially hired the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator to take the reins as head coach.
Known to be one of the brightest offensive minds in the league, the Bears are optimistic that Johnson will replicate his success with quarterback Jared Goff, but this time focusing on developing the 2024 first-overall pick into a franchise quarterback. After announcing the exciting news on Tuesday, the Bears ensured that their new head coach received a warm and enthusiastic welcome upon his arrival at the team facility.
As he entered the building, he was showered with loud applause and a standing ovation from the players and staff present at the facility to make him feel, “This is exactly where we wanted to be.” This grand gesture underscores their excitement and optimism about his leadership after his successful stint with the Lions.

Johnson’s hiring came after a challenging season for the Windy City, who finished the 2024 campaign with a 5-12 record and at the very bottom of the NFC North. That’s why, they are particularly excited about Johnson’s innovative approach and proven track record to lead the team back to prominence.
Bears expect Ben Johnson to elevate Caleb Williams’ game
It wasn’t too long ago when a couple of kids pranked the Bears quarterback by pretending to be Johnson, who was texting to let him know that he had officially been hired as the new head coach. Since the rookie did not have the former Lions OC’s phone number, he inquired from Amon-Ra St. Brown about it but he firmly denied the possibility that Johnson will join Chicago.
But it turns out to be true– not the prank of course. Johnson’s addition to the Bears is of great significance for Williams as the franchise has hired him intending to maximize a quarterback’s potential, much like he did with Goff. And that’s precisely what they hope he will achieve with Williams.
Since joining the new team, the 38-year-old has begun assembling his coaching staff. Reports indicate that he is eyeing former Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi and former head coach Dennis Allen, to be special teams coach and defensive coordinator respectively.
