Bronny James suffers injury scare in G-League
Bronny James has been putting on a show on a nightly basis for the South Bay Lakers in the G-League. On Friday night, South Bay walked away with a 112-104 victory over the Valley Suns, although all eyes were on the status of the Lakers rookie. The Lakers organization and training staff probably had their hearts in their mouths when James took a scary fall late in the game.
The sequence occurred during the 4th quarter with just over 6 minutes left. Bronny James got the ball near his own baseline before beating a couple of defenders to the rim for a monster double-dip slam. After the jam, James tried to hang on the rim to control his momentum. However, as he let go of the basket, he swung forward and fell flat on his back, causing serious concern for everyone around.

For a few moments, the scenes on the court looked grim as the 21-year-old rookie was left flat on his back, unable to get up from the floor. James’ mother, Savannah James, was also present at the game, and the tension in the gym over the possible injury was palpable.
Thankfully for Bronny James and the Lakers, he was able to get away without any major injuries, barring a few bruises on his back. He got back up after the injury scare and returned to action. He finished the match with a game-high 28 points on 12-23 shooting, continuing to show the potential which led the Lakers to draft him with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Bronny James continues to impress in G-League
Bronny James has been a star on the court whenever he takes centre stage in the G-League, despite the criticism he has received in the NBA. During Friday Night, not only did James drop a game-high 28 points, but he, far and away, looked like the best player on the court. He was locked in defensively, showing the perimeter defense he had been praised for during his days at USC.
He also addressed some of his shooting woes by draining 3 shots from beyond the arc against the Valley Suns. So far this season, James has been averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He has also been a solid shooter from the charity stripe, shooting 83.3% from the line.
Perhaps the most important factor for the Lakers, however, will be the development of Bronny James into a confident scorer with the ball in his hands. He has been solid from beyond the arc in the G-League so far, shooting 40.3% from three on nearly 8 attempts a game – even though it’s only been 5 games into the regular G-League season campaign. Bronny is almost doubling up all of his teammates in shot attempts at 22.6 per game, as the Lakers try to fast-track him into NBA readiness.
