Things took a wild turn on Saturday as players from Houston Cougars and BYU Cougars got into a massive fight in the middle of the football field. After taking a 21-10 lead at halftime, BYU dominated the field by scoring nine points straight in the second half.
In the final three minutes of the game, Jake Retzlaff went in for a touchdown run for seven yards. However, as he scored the touchdown, a physical brawl erupted between BYU running back Sione Moa and Houston defensive back Jeremiah Wilson.
The two started throwing punches at each other in the middle of the field and soon were joined by other players of their respective teams, causing a massive physical brawl in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s college football game.
Despite a reduction in the overall tension, skirmishes persisted as Houston’s Jamal Morris and Wilson were seen throwing some strikes at some of the BYU players in the end zone.

As a result, BYU’s Darius Lassiter and Houston’s AJ Haulcy were ejected from the game due to unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. They are expected to be subjected to further penalties from Big 12 as previous players have faced disciplinary action from the conference due to their roles in physical brawls during football games.
BYU falls short of Big 12 title game, awaiting Bowl Game destination
As big as the fight was, it couldn’t overshadow the thrilling play performed by the BYU in achieving the 30-18 victory over Houston. Despite the solid win, they have been snubbed from the Big 12 title game after the victories by Iowa State and Arizona State – who are poised to face off for the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday.
Retzaff put together an impressive play with 167 yards and two touchdowns. LJ Martin as well had an amazing performance with 87 yards and a season-high 22 carries, while Chase Roberts contributed with three catches for 76 yards.
BYU concluded the season on a strong note, forcing four turnovers and breaking their two-game losing streak with their victory. As they await their Bowl game destination, their opponent Houston’s season has officially come to an end.
