In the ongoing Laver Cup, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud secured a dominating win for Team Europe against Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton inside the Uber Arena in Berlin on Sunday (September 22). After the win, Alcaraz revealed that at times, he tried to imitate Roger Federer.
Alcaraz and Team Europe suffered a straight-set defeat on the first day of the Laver Cup in doubles when he played a match with Alexander Zverev against American duo Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. Federer, who before the Laver Cup had expressed his wish to see Alcaraz play for the first time, was in the stands during Alcaraz’s match. The Spaniard, who wanted to impress the Swiss maestro, lauded him for his incredible playing style.
I think one of the first tennis players who brought this kind of shots, making the impossible possible, was Roger. I watched his matches many times. He hit shots, unbelievable shots. Every kid wants to imitate him a little bit, and that’s why I’m trying in every practice, in every match, trying to bring some good shots into the match, to make people enjoy watching tennis a little bit.Carlos Alcaraz said during his in-court interview

Team Europe is trailing 7-8 against Team World after the aforementioned doubles match featuring Alcaraz. The 21-year-old will also be playing singles later during the day against Fritz, against whom Alcaraz won the only match they played, at the 2023 Miami Open.
Roger Federer says Carlos Alcaraz will stay for a long time
The tennis community is in awe of Carlos Alcaraz as the youngster has already clinched four Grand Slams at 21 years old. This season, he beat Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic to win two Majors and Roger Federer praised him for the way he plays.
But he is already very strong when it comes to the important points. Beating Novak in five sets when he was playing at his best at Wimbledon, he showed that day that he is that player and that he is here to stay for a long time.Roger Federer said at a press conference
Alcaraz, apart from the two Grand Slams, won the Indian Wells on the ATP Tour. He also clinched the silver medal on his Olympic debut in Paris. Federer, who co-created the Laver Cup, retired from tennis after playing doubles along with Rafael Nadal in the same tournament back in 2022.
